DAVE ARMSTRONG scored four goals, including the game-winner with just over four minutes remaining as Montclair scored the last two goals to edge New York Maritime, 12-11 in Knickerbocker Conference action on Wednesday evening.
Armstrong added two assists while
BRYAN KLIMCHAK had four goals as the Red Hawks improved to 5-4 overall and finished out their Knickerbocker Conference slate at 5-3. MSU closes out its league schedule nearly a full month before the start of the KLC Tournament.
Montclair State led 5-4 at halftime, but saw Maritime take the lead after three periods. In the fourth quarter, Ed Carswell scored the second of his three goals with 11:52 left to tie the game at 9-9. James Buttafuoco's man-down goal just under two minutes later put Maritime back in front, however Klimhcak would knot the game again with 7:32 left.
Donald Toby, who finished with five goals and three assists, pushed Maritime ahead, 11-10 with 5:23 to go before Montclair made its rally. Carswell scored with 4:48 left to tie the game at 11-11. Just 46 seconds later, Armstrong netted his fourth goal off an assist from
RYAN TICE for the winning margin.
Following the goal, Montclair won the face off and controlled the possession for the most of the final minutes. Armstrong just missed extending the lead with 1:41 left as he hit the post. Maritime did not get a chance to tie the game.
Carswell finished with three goals for the Red Hawks, who were outshot in the game, 41-39.
TIM CONDRON made 13 saves in goals or MSU while
KEVIN COSGROVE had seven ground balls in the contest.
Kevin Swift had three goals and two assists for Maritime while Buttafuoco netted a pair of goals. Tim O'Hara made 17 saves.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 1 as they travel to Oneonta College for a 1:00 pm start.
