Little Falls, NJ – Montclair State got seven RBI from designated hitters
ROB BOWNESS and
MICHAEL OCEJO, the latter belting a grand slam as the Red Hawks rolled past Ramapo, 20-2 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday afternoon.
BRIAN BUTLER and
KEVIN CUOZZI each drove in two runs as the Red Hawks (2-0 NJAC), moved past the .500 mark at 7-6 with a season high for runs and hits. Righthander
MICHAEL VICARO (1-2) tossed six shutout innings, striking out eight while allowing five hits.
Montclair scored in each of the first five innings starting with a three-run first. Bowness brought home the first run with a double and later scored along with Butler on an error in the outfield. The lead went to 5-0 in the second as Bowness plated a run with a ground out with
MICHAEL NUNES driving in another with a single.
DANNY RODRIGUEZ got in on the act in the third with an RBI single followed by a Butler two-run triple pushing the lead to 8-0. Bowness added a run-scoring triple for a nine-run advantage.
Cuozzi's sacrifice fly in the fourth got the lead to 10-0 and the Red Hawks exploded for nine in the fifth. Nunes doubled in the first two and
MARC DECASTRO, Cuozzi and
ROBERT CLARK each recorded RBIs before Ocejo blasted his grand slam making the score 19-0.
Montclair registered 21 hits in the contest, including two each by Rodriguez, Clark, Butler, Bowness, Ocejo, Nunes and
MATT HARTWICK notching two apiece.
MSU is back in action on Saturday, April 1 with more NJAC action as the Red Hawks return to Yogi Berra Stadium to host Rowan in a doubleheader at Noon.
