Salisbury, MD - In a battle of teams that have captured six NCAA Division III titles, the Montclair State baseball team scratched out a run in the top of the 10th inning for what proved to be the difference in a 6-5 win over eighth-ranked Marietta College in the Tri-State Tournament at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.

MARTY CABALAR fanned the final two hitters with the tying run in scoring position as the Red Hawks defeated the Pioneers in the first meeting between the teams since Marietta's 3-2 win over MSU in the 2001 Division III World Series.
Knotted 5-5 into extra innings, the Red Hawks got the decisive run in the 10th as
ROB BOWNESS was hit by pitch with two outs and stole second.
ANDREW VICARO singled to left bringing the go-ahead run to third. Bowness then scored as reliever Justin Merryman uncorked a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the inning, Marietta put the tying run on as Jarrod Klausman drew a leadoff walk. After a ground out moved Klausman to second, Cabalar was summoned from the bullpen. He caught Josh Spicer looking for the second out and then fanned Ryan Belanger to end the game. It was Cabalar's first career save.
Things did not start well for Montclair State as Marietta scored three times in the first inning and then tacked on a run in the second for a 4-0 lead. Three MSU errors aided the Pioneers in the first inning and Chris Hendricks picked up an RBI in the second with a ground out.
Montclair State would chip away at the lead with two runs in its half of the sixth inning.
SCOTT EVANGELIST singled with one out and a pair of errors loaded the bases.
JOHN JEDINY brought home a run with a fielder's choice and Bowness' RBI single made the score, 4-2.
The Red Hawks would take the lead the following inning with three runs.
DANNY RODRIGUEZ cut the deficit to one with an RBI single and Evangelist's bases-loaded walk tied the game before
MICHAEL NUNES delivered a run with a fielder's choice for a 5-4 MSU advantage.
Marietta tie the game in the eighth with a run as Belanger singled home a run. The Pioneers threatened to take the lead, however, sophomore lefthander
KEVIN DALTON got out of the jam with a ground out.
Dalton picked up the win as he went 2 1/3 innings of relief allowed a pair of hits and one run. He struck out three and walked two. Righthander
JAY COOK threw three scoreless innings giving up a hit with two strikeouts.
Vicaro was 3-for-5 for the Red Hawks while Rodriguez collected two hits and stole two bases.
Montclair State continues action in the Tri-State Tournament on Sunday, March 5 as they take on host Salisbury at 1:30 pm.
