Brocklebank, Tanis Guide Women's Lacrosse Past Western Connecticut

 Montclair, NJ (3/9/06) – Junior attack SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK had four goals and three assists as Montclair State had nine different players score goals in an 18-1 victory over Western Connecticut in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.

The win was the first for new Montclair State head coach Nicol Parcelluzzi, who took over the program in July. It was the season opener for both teams.

JENNIFER TANIS added three goals and one assist as the Red Hawks (1-0) scored five times in the first three minutes of the game en route to the victory.

Melissa Perry made 18 saves for the Colonials (0-1).

The Red Hawks opened the scoring 64 seconds into the game as MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO scored and Brocklebank notched the first of her four goals 12 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Tanis increased the lead 11 seconds after the Bocklebank tally and BETHANY BLAINE made it a four-goal lead off an assist from Brocklebank with 28 minutes remaining. Brocklebank added her second with 27:47 left.

Tanis would net her second of the game with 19:29 remaining in the opening half and Brocklebank registered the hat trick at the 15-minute mark as Montclair State built and 8-0 lead. BRIANNA GILLIN scored a pair of goals, the second coming at 10:23 to play giving MSU an 11-0 advantage. Tanis got her hat trick with 8:44 left off an assist from defender DINA MORRONE, who picked up her first career point. CRISTIN BENTZ and ANN DAILY completed the MSU scoring as the Red Hawks led 14-0 at halftime.

Brocklebank's fourth goal of the game midway through the second half gave Montclair State a 17-0 advantage before Western Connecticut finally broke through. Off a free-position attempt Cuyler Rush fired a shot that beat the goaltender with 7:26 to play.

Montclair State netminders Kristin Kuhmann and JENN BOGIN combined on the victory with Bogin making four saves as the Red Hawks outshot the Colonials, 41-7.

MSU returns to action on Tuesday, March 14 as they face McDaniel College in West Palm Beach , Florida . Western Connecticut heads back to New Jersey on March 16 as they head to Kean University for a 4:00 pm matchup.
