Women's LAcrosse Downs Manhattanville; Daily, Gillen Score Four Seconda Apart to Set NCAA Record

Purchase, NY (4/11/06) – Junior attack BRIANNA GILLIN scored three times and assisted on four others while ANN DAILY scored five times and set an NCAA Division III record for fastest consecutive goals as the Montclair State women's lacrosse team won its fifth straight with an 18-8 victory over Manhttanville College on Tuesday evening.

Jen Tanis had three goals and an assist for the Red Hawks, who stayed unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 while improving to 8-3 overall.

Montclair State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 6:38 of the game. Daily scored the first three goals, her first coming at 29:31 to put the Red Hawks on the board. Four seconds later, Daily scored again to break the previous record of :08 set by Sharon Kilpatrick of Eastern Connecticut in May of 2003 against Curry.

Daily would add one more with 27:22 remaining and Gillin and DINA MORRONE each tallied a goal as MSU built its five-goal cushion. Abbe Grimes and Colleen Holahan would counter for the Valiants to cut the lead to 5-2 with 13:36 left. However, Daily answered 13 seconds later and Tanis notched her first goal with 9:27 to play as MSU extended the lead back to 7-2.

NICOLE ROSELLE, BETHANY BLAINE and SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK, the Skyline Conference Player of the Week, each scored a Montclair State took a 10-2 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Grimes scored 13 seconds into the period to make the score, 10-3 before Montclair ran off five straight goals by five different players. Tanis and Brocklebank scored with 23 minutes remaining and Gillin collected her second with 21:25 left for a 13-3 lead. Roselle and MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO scored 20 seconds apart as the Red Hawks led 15-3.

Kristin Kuhmann made seven saves for the Red Hawks, who outshot the Valiants, 40-23 in the contest.

Montclair State returns to action on Friday, April 14 as they host Kean University at Sprague Field at 4:00 pm. The game has been moved from its original Saturday, April 15th date.
