SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK scored five times and sophomore
JENNIFER TANIS added four goals as Montclair State powered its way to its sixth straight victory with a 21-6 victory over Kean University in Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse action at a rainy Sprague Field on Friday afternoon.
BETHANY BLAINE and
ANN DAILY each scored three times as the Red Hawks improved to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference, wrapping up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament which gets underway on April 26.
Gio Buono had four goals for Kean, which fell to 4-7 overall, 1-3 in the Skyline Conference.
Buono put the Cougars on the board first as she scored 2:59 into the contest off a free position shot. Montclair State would counter with three goals, the first coming by Blaine off an assist from
BRIANNA GILLIN with 26:23 left. Brocklebank notched her first just under five minutes later and Blaine's second with 19:58 to play in the first half made the score, 3-1. Buono scored her second with 16:51 left to pull the Cougars with a goal, however Tanis scored three of the next four Montclair goals, the final coming with 6:22 left as the Red Hawks built a 7-2 lead.
Buono's third tally of the game with 5:57 left cut the Kean deficit to four before the Red Hawks scored seven straight to end the half. Tanis got the scoring barrage going with 4:58 left and Brocklebank scored twice for an 11-3 advantage. Gillin and
MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO each recorded a goal and Blaine scored with 10 seconds left in the half as Montclair State took a 16-3 lead into the break.
In the second half, Montclair scored the first five goals, making it a 12-goal spurt bridging the two halves. Brocklebank scored 34 seconds into the period and Daily registered a pair of scores before Brocklebank capped off the run with her fifth goal with 20:29 to play.
Kristin Kuhmann made five saves in goal for the Red Hawks, who held a 37-15 advantage in shots in the contest. Lydia Pinto had five saves for Kean.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, April 18. Montclair State travels to Eastern University (PA) for a 4:00 pm matchup while Kean will entertain Farmingdale State at 7:00 pm.
