Blaine Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Eastern

St. David's, PA (4/18/06) Sophomore BETHANY BLAINE scored five goals as Montclair State pulled away in the second half for its seventh straight victory as the Red Hawks upended Eastern University (PA), 14-7, in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.

JENNIFER TANIS and NICOLE ROSELLE each scored three times as the Red Hawks moved to 10-3 on the season. The winning streak is one shy of the school record set in 2004 when Montclair began the year 8-0.

BRIANNA GILLIN and Tanis each scored in the first four minutes to put Montclair up 2-0. Eastern would respond as Jesse Basch scored, but Blaine notched her first goal to restore the lead to 3-1. Basch would cut the lead to 3-2 with 13:28 left and Nicole Dorflinger tied the game with 10:40 to play.

Roselle quickly regained the lead for Montclair with her first goal a minute later and SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK added another as the Red Hawks took a 5-3 lead. Kate Hoy's goal with 6:42 to play made cut the MSU lead to 5-4, but Roselle and Brocklebank answered for Montclair as it took a 7-4 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Blaine scored two to open the period to boost the Montclair lead to 9-4 with 25:40 to go. Basch scored twice to trim the lead back to three with 18 minutes left, but Tanis tallied two more times over the next seven minutes as Montclair State led 11-6 with 9:58 to play. Roselle scored 49 seconds later and Blaine's fourth goal with 6:22 left put the Red Hawks up 13-6.

Kristin Kuhmann made 10 saves for the Red Hawks, which outshot the Eagles, 39-22. Alesha Bennett made 23 saves for Eastern (PA).

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 22 as they close out their regular season against Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference matchup. MSU is currently 5-0 in the league and has already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament which begins on April 26.
