Montclair, NJ (4/13/06) – Freshman attackman A.J. Bachman scored seven goals and senior
DAVE ARMSTRONG added a goal and seven assists as Montclair State opened up a six-goal lead after the first period and defeated DeSales University, 18-7 at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.
BRYAN KLIMCHAK had four goals for Montclair State, which improved to 7-6 overall with its second straight win. Dan Thomer had four goals for DeSales, which fell to 1-10 on the season.
Bachman got the Red Hawks on the board as he scored with 12:56 left in the opening period. Less than a minute later,
TYLER MEIXNER scored off an assist by Armstrong, who then found Ed Carswell with 11:11 left for a 3-0 lead. Klimchak score his first with 9:50 to play and Bachman tallied 13 seconds later for a five-goal cushion. Carswell capped off the MSU scoring in the period with 4:40 remaining.
DeSales would open the second quarter with two goals by Thomer, the second off an assist from his brother Kevin with 11:12 to go before halftime. Montclair countered with two goal of its own as Bachman scored unassisted and Meixner notched a goal on a man-up opportunity with 6:17 to go. Klimchak and
EVAN WEHMEYER each scored in the final minute as Montclair State led 10-3 at halftime.
In the second half, MSU repeated its first period performance with six goals. Klimchak opened the scored 41 seconds in and Bachman scored twice for a 13-3 lead. Armstrong's man-up goal with 4:19 left gave Montclair an 11-goal advantage and Pat Ritacco got his first goal of the year with 3:56 to play before Bachman closed out the quarter with his sixth tally of the game as MSU built a 16-3 lead heading into the final period.
TIM CONDRON made 10 saves in the first 51 minutes before giving way to
DAN CUFF, who made two saves in the final nine minutes. Ben Conroy had 10 saves for the Bulldogs with Kehoe William stopping one shot.
Dylan Beese had five ground balls and won 13 faceoffs for DeSales.
Montclair State outshot the Bulldogs, 56-25, including a 20-2 margin in the first quarter.
