Men's Lacrosse Muscles Past Mount St. Vincent

Montclair, NJ (4/21/06) – Sophomore attack BRYAN KLIMCHAK scored six goals and added three assists as Montclair State closed out its regular-season with a 20-1 rout of College of Mount Saint Vincent in NCAA Division III men's lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Friday afternoon.

TYLER MEIXNER added three goals and two assists as the Red Hawks moved back over the .500 mark at 8-7. Tom Eagan made saves for the Dolphins, who fell to 1-8.

The Red Hawks raced out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter as Klimchak scored three times and Meixner and A.J. Bachman each tallied twice. Meixner put MSU on the board with 12:10 to play and Bachman's unassisted goal made it 2-0. Pat Ritacco scored just over a minute later and Klimchak and Meixner each scored to give MSU a 6-0 cushion with 5:55 left. Klimchak would record his hat trick 25 seconds later and Bachman collected his second with 3:19 remaining. CRAIG MARCONE closed out the period off a feed from Klimchak with 2:18 to go.

Klimchak would add two more in the second as MSU led 12-0 at half.

In the second half, Ed Carswell opened the period with his only goal of the game and Bachman and EVAN WEHMEYER scored 39 seconds apart to give Montclair a 15-0 advantage. Klimchak's final goal with 4:07 left and Marcone's man-advantage tally with 1:43 play helped the Red Hawks to a 17-0 lead after three periods.

The Dolphins would get on the board early in the fourth period as Jason Reynolds intercepted a clearing pass and bounced a ball past TIM CONDRON for the lone MSV goal.

Meixner, SAM DEANGELIS and RYAN TICE recorded the final three Montclair State goals.

Bachman finished with three goals while Marcone and Tice each collected two scores. DAVE ARMSTRONG had five assists to give him 51 for the season, the third-highest single season total in MSU history. Wehmeyer had a goal and two assists for the Red Hawks, who out shot Mt. St. Vincent, 44-15, including 11-0 in the third quarter.  Condron made eight saves.

Reynolds had five faceoff wins and five ground balls for the Dolphins, who also got seven faceoff win from Kyle O'Donnell.

The Red Hawks will now wait to see their Knickerbocker Tournament fate. MSU is currently 5-3 in the league and in third place pending the outcome of Saturday's two league games – Stockton at Centenary and Farmingdale at Kean. Should MSU finish in a three-way tie with Stockton and Farmingdale, a league tiebreaker would be used to determine which two teams would advance to the KLC Tournament opening round on April 26. The Dolphins are in action on Sunday, April 23 at Dominican (1:00 pm)
