KELLY KARP singled home the game-winning run in the opener and classmate
JENNIFER JIMENEZ belted a three-run home run in the nightcap as Montclair State won its sixth straight with an NJAC doubleheader sweep of Richard Stockton at the MSU Softball Stadium on Monday evening.
The Red Hawks won the opener, 4-3 to give head coach Anita Kubicka her 500 th career win. MSU then made it 501 for the 16 th year head coach as they took the night cap, 8-1 to improve to 28-6 overall, 9-5 in the NJAC. Kubicka is now 501-186-1 in her career at Montclair State become just the second coach in school history to achieve 500 wins as she joins baseball coach Norm Schoenig as the duo make Montclair State the only Division III institution in the nation with active baseball and softball coaches who have achieved 500 victories all at one school.
Jessica Williams extended her hitting streak to 10 games and set a new Richard Stockton single season mark with her 45 th his as the Ospreys fell to 20-16 overall, 8-4 in the NJAC.
In the opener, Richard Stockton trailed 3-0 in the top of the seventh, but tied the game with three runs. Amy Carragino homered with one out for the first run and pinch-hitter Anderson singled. A walk put runners at first and second and a sacrifice by Samantha Horner moved runners to second and third with two outs. Barbara Kutch then lined a single up the middle to score both runs.
Montclair would answer in the bottom of the seventh.
MEGAN TANTUM isingled down the left field line to open the inning and sacrifice her to second base. Karp then line a single to right field scoring Tantum with the winning
JENNA WEISS run and giving Kubicka the milestone win.
ATHANASIA TOTARO picked up the win as she improved to 13-4 on the season. Totaro, who also homered to lead off the first, gave up three runs and five hits, striking out three and walking three. Tara Barker took the loss to fall to 9-7. Barker struck out seven and surrendered seven hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings.

In the second game, MSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead as
DANA WARNOCK singled home run in the third inning. MSU would add four more in the fourth, three coming off the bat of Jimenez, who connected for her 14 th home run of the season, extending the Red Hawk single-season mark. Montclair would extend the lead to 6-0 in fourth as Tantum and
CHERYL BODAK each added RBI singles.
CAROLYN MCCREA earned the win as she upped her record to 13-4. McCrea scattered four hits, struck out six and walked two. Jessica Ricciuti suffered the loss as she fell to 9-8. Warnock had three hits for Montclair State.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 25 as they travel to Wayne, NJ to meet backyard rival William Paterson in an NJAC matchup at 3:00 pm.
