Stevens Knocks Off Men's Lacrosse in KLC Tournament

Hoboken, NJ (4/26/06) – Junior goalkeeper TIM CONDRON made a career-best 22 saves, however, it was not enough as 14th-ranked Stevens knocked off Montclair State, 13-4 in the semifinals of the Knickerbocker Conference Tournament on Wednesday evening.

The Red Hawks fell to 8-8 on the season and will now await their post-season fate. MSU, the three-time defending champion, is eleigible for the ECAC Metro Tournament scheduled for May 12-14. Bids for the tournament will be announced on Monday, May 8.

After losing to the Ducks in back on March 4, 17-7, this time the Red Hawks battled, but still found themselves down 3-0 in the first period as Patrick Bailey and Matt Althauser scored in the first six minutes. Montclair State would trim the lead on a goal by TYLER MEIXNER with 7:32 to play, but the Ducks closed out the opening quarterwith goals from Joe Van Syckle and J.R. Oreskovich for a 5-1 advantage.

In the second period, Montclair came back keyed by Condron who made nine saves in the period. His effort kept the Ducks off the board allowing Montclair to score as A.J. Bachman talllied on the power-play. EVAN WEHMEYER then scored with 2:55 left as the Red Hawks trailed just 5-3 at halftime.

In the second half, a Stevens extended the lead to 6-3 on a marker by Mark Bielicky. Montclair State would answer as BRYAN KLIMCHAK scored with 5:23 left. It was Klimchak's 53rd goal of the season, tying the single-season mark set by Pete Zorich in 1990.

STevens then coutered with two goals a minute apart late in the period as Bailey scored with 3:02 remaining and Oreskovich got one a minute later as the Ducks took an 8-4 lead heading into the final period. Stevens then put the game away with five goals in the final 15 minutes.

Ken Weinraub had four ground balls and three forced turnovers for Montclair State while Wehmeyer captured 9-of-15 faceoff attempts.
