KEVIN DALTON combined on a six-hit shutout as second-seeded Montclair State moved into the championship round of the NCAA Boyertown Regional with a 7-0 victory over no. 3 Kean University on Saturday.

ROB BOWNESS went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Red Hawks (31-17-2), who will face top-seeded The College of New Jersey later on Saturday in an elimination contest. If MSU is victorious, a winner-take-all game will be played on Sunday, May 21 with the winner of that game advancing to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in Appleton, WI next weekend.
Winning for the fourth time in the last three days, Vicaro and Dalton gave Montclair an outstanding effort on the mound. Vicaro (5-4) went the first five innings allowing four hits with four strikeouts and three walks to record the victory. Dalton allowed two hits over the final four innings to register his first save of the year.
Montclair jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as
DANNY RODRIGUEZ and
BRIAN BUTLER collected back-to-back singles with one out. Bowness then laced a double to right-center scoring both for the early two-run advantage.
The Red Hawks increased its lead in the fifth with a run.
LOU POLITAN walked, stole second and went to third on a throwing error before scoring on an RBI single through the right side by
SCOTT EVANGELIST.
MSU put the game away in the bottom of the eighth with four runs. Bowness brought home
KEVIN CUOZZI with an infield single and
ROBERT CLARK followed with a single to left making the score 5-0. Andrew
Vicaro singled for another run before Politan's base hit through the right side delivered Clark for the final run.
