Montclair, NJ (9/13/06) – Freshmen
NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and
CHRISTINA DELLA FAVE (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) each scored a goal as Montclair State won its fourth straight contest, knocking off Stevens, 2-0, in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer action at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
Senior
KRISTIN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made six saves in posting her fourth straight shutout as Montclair State (4-1) snapped a three-game losing streak to the Ducks. MSU last defeated Stevens in 2002 (1-0) and is now 5-3-1 overall in the series between the teams. Erica Midttveit ( Jackson , NJ /Jackson Memorial) made seven saves for Stevens.
Montclair State held the advantage in shots in the game at 14-8, yet it was Stevens which nearly put the first goal on the scoreboard as Megan Legendre (O'Fallon, IL/O Fallon Township ) intercepted a loose ball at the 12 yard line at the 2:16 mark and fired a shot that Kuhmann came up with keeping the game scoreless. Each team would manage four shots apiece in the opening 45 minutes however; neither could find the back of the net as Midttveit and Kuhmann had two and three saves, respectively.
In the second half, the Red Hawks would break through, 1:19 into the period as Sisti drove on the net and got off a shot that Midttveit initially stopped. The ball though caromed right back to Sisti, who rebound ricocheted past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the game.
From there, Montclair created several more opportunities only to be denied by Midttveit, who made five saves in the half. Montclair would extend the lead at 77:12 off a corner kick. Senior
