HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had a combined 28 kills and 22 digs on the opening day as Montclair State split its two matches at the Scranton Tournament on Friday evening.
Montclair (3-5) downed Wilkes University in five sets, before falling to York (PA), 3-0 in pool play. After splitting the first two games against Wilkes (30-25, 16-30, 30-28, 27-30), the Red Hawks won the decisive fifth game, 15-11 for their third straight victory. Against York, MSU fell 30-25, 30-14 and 30-16.
Aciz finished with 23 kills and 16 digs while freshman
ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added 16 kills and eight block solos for MSU.
KAREN MARTIN (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) added eight kills and 18 digs while
RAISA SILVA (Newark, NJ/Newark East Side) registered 51 assists and 25 digs.
JULIANA FERDINAND (Newark, NJ/Memorial) and
KARA BURNHAM (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) each had five kills for Montclair State.
Martin led the way with seven kills and 11 digs in the loss against York (PA). Aciz had five kills and six digs while
MEGHAN STEVENS (Woodcliff, NJ/Pascack Hills) recorded a team-high 13 digs.
The Red Hawks continue action in the Scranton Tournament on Saturday as they take on St. Lawrence University at 11:30 am. MSU will then have one more match to play in the afternoon as they complete competition.
