Montclair, NJ (9/16/06) – Junior middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) collected a match-high 22 kills and four block solos while Jacqueline LeBlanc (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added 19 kills and eight digs as New Jersey City University upended Montclair State in four sets in NJAC Volleyball action at the Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Sarah Torres (Elizabeth, NJ/Science) added 16 kills and three block solos for the Gothic Knights (11-4, 2-0 NJAC), who won their second straight overall and their 11th straight against conference foes dating back to last season (regular-season and conference tournament). NJCU also defeated Montclair State (3-8, 1-1 NJAC) for the third straight season and just the fifth time in 22 meetings between the teams.

HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 13 kills and 22 digs for Montclair State, which has dropped four straight following a three-match winning streak.
The defending conference champion, NJCU jumped out to a two-game-to-none lead as they won by scores of 30-15 and 30-21. The third game became a back-and-forth affair with each team gaining multiple chances to take the contest. With the Red Hawks on game-point, Cintron unleashed a hard kill to tie the game at 32-32. MSU would get a second chance at 33-32, however, LeBlanc would keep the Gothic Knights in with a kill and Michelle Cintron's (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) kill forged another tie this time at 35. A service error by NJCU gave MSU its third straight game-point and this time the Red Hawks were able to put the game away as
KARA BURNHAM (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) collected the kill for the 37-35 victory.
In the fourth game, the Gothic Knights used their solid hitting power to close out the match, 30-19. NJCU hit .406 in the final game (17-4-32) and finished the match at .348 with 73 kills. Sofia Gutierrez (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) registered 62 assists for NJCU while Lizzelle Cintron, the reigning three-time NJAC Player of the Week, also added 13 digs and three block assists. LeBlanc added five blocks assists at the Gothic Knights recorded 15 in the match. Lyanelly Negron (Union, NJ/Union) led the team with 27 digs.
KAREN MARTIN (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township) added 10 kills and 18 digs for the Red Hawks, who got 33 assists from setter
RAISA SILVA (Newark, NJ/Newark East Side). Freshman
ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), the NJAC Rookie of the Week, had six kills and four block solos.
NJCU is now off until next Tuesday when the Gothic Knights host Ramapo College at the John J. Moore Athletic Center on September 26 at 7:00 pm. Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, September 21 when they travel to Rutgers-Camden for another NJAC match at 6:00 pm.
