Camden, NJ (9/21/06) – The Montclair State University women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak here Thursday night as the Red Hawks outlasted Rutgers University-Camden, 30-26, 26-30, 30-19, 21-30, 15-9, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Montclair State improves to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-4 and 0-2.
The Red Hawks were paced by a group of freshmen as
RAISA SILVA (Newark, NJ/East Side) notched 42 assists,
MEGHAN STEVENS (Woodcliff, NJ/Pascack Hills) had 30 digs,
ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) collected 11 kills and seven blocks,
KARA BURNHAM (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) notched 10 kills and Karin Martin (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township) had 10 kills and 18 digs.
Rutgers-Camden, which is 0-32 in its NJAC volleyball history, marked the first time it had won a pair of games in one NJAC match. That doubled the Raptors' NJAC victory total to four games over the program's history.
Leading the way for the Raptors were freshman Marci Polite ( Cherry Hill , NJ / Cherry Hill East) and junior Julie Grochowski ( Williamstown , NJ /Williamstown) with nine and seven blocks, respectively.
Montclair State plays at York (PA) College's Best Western Westgate Tournament Friday and Saturday. Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it hosts Bryn Mawr College in a 12 p.m. non-conference match.
