York (PA) (9/22/06) - The Montclair State volleyball team lost both of their matches at the Best Western Westgate Invitational held at York College on Friday evening. MSU fell to Susquehanna and Grove City by the identical 3-1 margins.
MSU (4-10), fell to Susquehanna 30-22, 24-30, 30-26, 30-27 in its opening match. Senior
HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus , NJ /Secaucus) had 11 kills and 19 digs while
KARA BURNHAM (Moorestown , NJ / Moorestown) added nine kills.
KAREN MARTIN (Sicklerville , NJ / Washington Township) and
SAMANTHA KARPINSKI (Hackensack , NJ / Hackensack) each collected eight kills while Martin recording 21 digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman setter
RAISA SILVA (Newark , NJ /Newark Eastside) recorded 41 assists and 15 digs.
ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick , NJ / East Brunswick) collected five kills and three block solos while Megan Stevens ( Woodcliffe Lake , NJ / Pascack Hills) was credited with 18 digs.
The Red Hawks wrapped up play on the first day falling to Grove City in four sets. The teams split the first two games with MSU taking the second, 30-27 to tie the match. Grove City then captured the next two, 30-16 and 30-19 to win the match.
Martin had 11 kills and 15 digs while Aciz added nine kills and 17 digs. Karpinski had a fine all-around match with seven kills, two aces, two digs and four block solos. Chesnakova had eight kills in the loss and Silva collected 29 assists. Stevens led Montclair with 18 digs.
The Red Hawks close out action in the tournament on Saturday as they will face Lebanon Valley and host York . Montclair fell to York , 3-0 at the Scranton Tournament on September 15.
