York (PA) (9/23/06) - The Montclair State University women's volleyball team closed out action at the Best Western Westgate Invitational held at York College on Saturday as the Red Hawks dropped a five-set match to the host Spartans.
It was the sixth time this season that MSU (4-12) has gone five sets in a match and the second time that the Red Hawks fell to York (PA) this season. Earlier in the day, Montclair lost to Lebanon Valley College in three sets.
Montclair State won the first game against York , 30-28, but the Spartans took the next two 31-29 and 30-22. MSU would force a deciding game with a 30-25 victory in the fourth set, however York won the decisive game, 15-10.
HEATHER ACIZ ( Secaucus , NJ /Secaucus) had 26 kills and 22 digs to lead the way for the Red Hawks. Freshman
ANNA CHESNAKOVA ( East Brunswick , NJ / East Brunswick ) added 18 kills and three block solos while Karin Martin ( Sicklerville , NJ / Washington Township) had 13 kills and 21 digs.
SAMANTHA KARPINSKI ( Hackensack , NJ / Hackensack ) recorded 12 kills while
RAISA SILVA ( Newark , NJ /Newark East Side) totaled 51 assists to go along with 11 digs.
SARA SIRAG ( Dover , NJ / Randolph ) had 17 digs and three service aces.
In the loss to Lebanon Valley (30-24, 30-16, 30-27), Chesnakova led the way with 11 kills and six total blocks (3 solo, 3 assists) while Aciz had nine kills and 12 digs. Silva contributed with 25 assists while Martin recorded five kills, two service aces and eight digs.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, September 26 as it travels to Pomona , NJ to take on the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College at 7:00 pm. MSU is currently 1-1 in the conference this season.
