ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) recorded a school-record 10 blocks and added nine kills in a five-set lossto Buffalo State as the Red Hawks closed out their first weekend of play with a pair of losses in the Red Dragon Classic held at SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 11 kills, four service aces and 17 digs for the Red Hawks as they rallied from 2-0 down (24-30, 27-30, 30-26, 30-20) against the Bengals before dropping the decisive game, 15-8. Earlier in the day, MSU (0-4) completed pool play with a three-set loss to Skidmore (22-30, 23-30, 24-30).
Sophomore
SAMANTHA KARPINSKI ( Hackensack, NJ/ Hackensack) had nine kills and seven digs for the Red Hawks while freshman setter
RAISA SILVA ( Newark, NJ/Newark East Side) registered 36 assists and 11 digs.
Aciz was named to the All-Tournament Team as she collected 34 kills, seven aces and 34 digs in the four matches.
In the match against Skidmore, Aciz led MSU with 12 kills and added six digs while Karpinski and
KARA BURNHAM ( Moorestown, NJ/ Moorestown) each had seven kills with Chesnakova adding eight kills and three total blocks. Silva added 32 assists and 13 digs.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 6 as they face the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in Manhattan at 6:00 pm.
