Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Morgan Scores Twice to Pace No. 15 Men's Soccer

Wayne, NJ (9/20/06) - Senior forward RYAN MORGAN (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) scored two second-half goals as 15th-ranked Montclair State remained unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over backyard rival William Paterson in NJAC Men's Soccer action on Wednesday evening.

Freshman JOSEPH CULLEN (Clementon, NJ/Highland) had two assists for the Red Hawks, who are now 7-0 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC. The 7-0 start is the best by Montclair State since the 1969 season. Senior ILYAS TASCI (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) gave MSU a 1-0 lead just before halftime as he knocked in his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Leroy Sequeira (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep). William Paterson would tie the game 2:28 into the second half as Will Pease flicked in a shot from Matt Osman past MSU goalkeeper NICK MELE (Delran, NJ/Delran) forging the 1-1 tie.

From there, the Red Hawks took control of the game and nearly took the lead, however, ERIC PFEIFER's (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) shot hit the post and BILL ANTHES' (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) follow-up alo found the post. Cullen was then denied by Dave Casper at the 56-minute mark. MSU was then finally able to break through as Morgan notched his fifth goal of the season off a Cullen assist at 69:41 to put Montclair State in front for good. The duo would then connect again with just under 10 minutes remaining for the final margin. The goal gave Morgan the team lead in points and his two goal effort gave him 37 for his career - one behind John Smith (1967-70) for sixth place on the all-time MSU goals list.

Mele made five saves in recording the win. Casper had three for William Paterson. Montclair State outshot the Pioneers, 23-10 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 23 as they host The College of New Jersey at Sprague Field. Kickoff of the NJAC contest is set for 7:00 pm.
