Ewing, NJ (9/26/06) - The College of New Jersey won the battle of unbeaten fieldhockey teams as the third-ranked Lions scored twice in the last 11 minutes to edge sixth-ranked Montclair State University 2-1 on Tuesday, September 26 at Lions' Stadium.
The victory keeps the Lions undefeated on the season at 6-0 and puts them at 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The loss was the first of the season for the Red Hawks, who are now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, Montclair opened the scoring 6:38 into the second frame as
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) scored in transition. The goal was Tanis' ninth of the season and came on what turned out to be the Red Hawks lone shot on goal in the game.
TCNJ evened the score as Colleen Dougherty (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) set up Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) for her second goal of the season. That goal came with 10:56 remaining in regulation.
Senior captain Allison Greene (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) then put the Lions in front for good with 7:22 left on the clock scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
The Lions held a decisive advantage in both shots and penalty corners outshooting the Red Hawks 24-1 and also holding a 21-0 edge on corners.
Erin Mitschke (Boonton Township, NJ/Mountain Lakes) collected the win even though she did not register a save.

JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) kept Montclair State in the game throughout as the freshman finished with 12 saves.
TCNJ heads to Manhattanville College on Saturday for a non-conference game, while next up for the Red Hawks will be home game with C.W Post on Saturday as well.
