Volleyball Tops Rowan in NJAC Action

 Glassboro, NJ (10/11/07) – The Montclair State University women's volleyball team shut out Rowan University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday night.
 
Montclair State improves to 17-11 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Rowan has an 8-9 overall record and a 4-2 NJAC mark. The Red Hawks won with game scores of 30-20, 30-13, and 30-12.

The 17 victories are the most by MSU since the 2000 campaign and just the fifth time that Montclair has won 17 or more matches in a season. The Red Hawks also took one more step closer to sewing up the No. 3 seed and a first-round home match in the NJAC Tournament, which gets underway on Tuesday, October 30.

Middle blocker KARA BURNHAM led MSU with 15 kills, three blocks, and a .483 hitting percentage. Outside hitter DEVON JOHNSTON followed with 14 kills, 14 digs, and a .481 hitting percentage. Libero KRISTEN RUGGIERI contributed with 19 digs. Setter RAISA SILVA added 37 assists.

For the Profs, middle blocker Theresa Pecoraro totaled seven kills and seven assists. Outside hitter Siobahn Young posted 13 digs, and defensive specialist Casey Roselle had 11. Setter Chrissy McKay chipped in 11 assists.

Montclair State plays in a tri-match at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday, October 13. The Red Hawks will face Richard Stockton at 1:30 p.m. and the U.S. Coast Guard at 3 p.m. It will be the second meeting between MSU and Stockton this season, with the Ospreys taking a 3-2 victory at Panzer Gymnasium on September 25.
