JUSTINE DIPAOLO (Lanoka Harbor, NJ / Lacey) ,
REBECCA DOBIESZ (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) and
MEGAN PIETRUNTI (Middletown, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) each scored goals as Montclair State, ranked 19 th in Division III, picked up its second straight win with a 3-0 victory over Ramapo College in NJAC field hockey at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
Senior
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ / Jefferson) and
ANNALISA VALERIO (Norristown, PA/Kennedy Kendrick) each recorded assists as Montclair State improved to 11-4 overall, 2-3 in the NJAC. It is the eighth consecutive season that Montclair has won 11 or more games.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Tierney ( Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) made 10 saves for the Roadrunners, who fell to 6-8 overall, 1-5 I in the NJAC.
Montclair needed just 2:22 to score the only goal it would need in the contest. Tanis moved the ball down on the right side within 10 yards before firing a shot that Tierney made a kick save on. However, the rebound bounced out to Dobiesz, who fired the ball inside the right post to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
Ramapo nearly tied the game with 18:46 to go in the period, however the goal was disallowed. Instead of a 1-1 tie, Montclair would increased its lead three minutes later as DiPaolo gathered a ball in the middle of the field 10 yards out, spun around and unleashed a shot that ducked into the far right corner for her third tally of the season as Montclair led 2-0 at 21:24.
Pietrunti would cap off Montclair's scoring in the second half as she collected her 11 th of the season and fourth in the last four games. Tierney would make a high glove save on Valerio's shot from the in front of the cage. Again, Montclair got a generous rebound and Pietrunti made it count as she tapped in the rebound at 54:19 as MSU led by three.
Ramapo would get its chances in the second half, but
JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) made three of her four saves, including a rebound stop on Ashley Zimmerman (North Plainfield, NJ / North Plainfield) in front of the cage at 66:12 to keep the Roadrunners off the board.
Supko registered her fourth shutout of the season as the Red Hawks outshot the Roadrunners, 18-8 and also held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 20 as the Red Hawks host defending NCAA Division III champion and No. 6 Ursinus College at Sprague Field (1:00 pm). MSU will be looking to avenge a 4-3 overtime loss to the Bears last season.
