Ursinus Shuts Out Montclair State

Montclair, NJ (10/20/07) – Junior midfielder Jennie Moore (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) scored twice and added an assist as sixth-ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Ursinus College collected five goals in the second half en route to a 6-0 victory over 19 th-ranked Montclair State at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Kait Sutherland (Perkiomenville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) had a goal and an assist for the Bears, who improved to 13-2 with their fifth straight victory. Ursinus is also 3-0 against Montclair State. Last year the Bears posted a 4-3 overtime win in Collegeville, PA in the first meeting between the teams since 1975.

Sophomore goalkeeper JACQUIE SUPKO ( Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) made eight saves for Montclair State, which had its two-game winning streak snapped as the Red Hawks fell to 11-5.

A scoreless battle through the first 27 minutes of the game, Ursinus grabbed what turned out to be the only goal it would need as Sutherland tallied her 11 th of the season. Off a penalty corner, the Bears moved the ball within five yards of the cage when Meredith Stabley ( Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) put forth a shot that Sutherland was able to redirect in as the Bears led 1-0 with 7:53 to play in the half.

In the second half, Ursinus exploded as the Bears outshot Montclair State, 10-2 over the final 35 minutes.. Moore extended the lead 4:08 into the period. Off another corner, Moore collected the ball and weaved past two defenders before letting go of a shot that ducked inside the right post for the 2-0 lead. Lindsay Cappa (Oley, PA/Oley) scored the third goal 10 minutes later off another Stabley assist as the lead grew to 3-0 and Moore made it a four-goal lead 1:30 later as she registered her second from Sutherland.

 Megan Yoder (Litlitz, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) made it three goals in a three –minute span with her fifth of the year and the Bears scoring was capped with 3:06 left in the game as Sarah Brant (Collegeville, PA / The Hill School) scored her second of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica Lamina (Doylestown, PA / Central Bucks West) made three saves, all in the first half, for Ursinus, which finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots and had 12 of the 14 penalty corners in the game.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 24 as the Red Hawks play their final NJAC contest of the season at Richard Stockton beginning at 4:00 pm. Ursinus stays on the road as the Bears head to Muhlenberg for a 7:00 pm matchup with the Mules on Tuesday, October 23.
