RAISA SILVA handed out 49 assists as the Montclair State women's volleyball team topped Ramapo College 30-18, 30-23, and 30-24 in NJAC play.

DEVON JOHNSTON combined for 27 kills for MSU, who improved to 16-11 and 4-2 in the NJAC. Meagan Taege led the way with 12 kills for Ramapo, who fell to 13-6, 2-2 in the conference.
The Roadrunners closed out a 3-0 spurt to get within a point at 12-11 in the opening set, but the Red Hawks reeled off nine of the next 10 markers to extend the lead further. Ramapo received kills from Taege and Maureen Hennecke to trim the gap to seven, but
KAREN MARTIN served up four straight points to bring up set point. Johnston slammed home a Silva set to give MSU the 1-0 advantage.
The second frame went back-and-forth, with neither side leading by more than two points early on. Johnston notched a kill to kick-start a 5-1 run, but Ramapo battled back to get within two at 25-23. After a Red Hawk timeout, the rookie Johnston ended the Roadrunner rally with a kill. She would serve the final four points, including two aces, to push MSU over the finish line for a 2-0 lead.
The visiting Roadrunners stormed out of the gates in the third set, grabbing seven of the first nine points. Hennecke's ace brought them in front 11-5, but sophomore
KARA BURNHAM brought the game back to even with six consecutive points. During the run, Chesnakova delivered a pair of blocks. A Martin attack error gave Ramapo their final lead of the day before
KRISTEN RUGGIERI served the final six points. The Red Hawks claimed the straight-set win as Ruggieri delivered an ace on the last point.
Montclair limited Ramapo to a .072 attack percentage, including a -.027 clip in the third frame.
The Red Hawks return to the court on Thursday, October 11, as they travel to Rowan University.
