Red Hawks Lose at Rowan, 78-68

Glassboro, NJ - Rowan University had four players score in double figures en route to a 78-68 win over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Montclair State University on Saturday.

Guard Thomas Baker (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) led all scorers with 25 points. Guard Dan Reddan (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) and forward Matt Byrnes (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) added 12 and 11 points respectively. Bowser also dished eight assists.

Rowan improves to 16-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference. Montclair State has a 9-11 overall record and a 3-7 NJAC mark.

For the Red Hawks, guard KEN DUDLEY (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Burlington Tech) scored 21 points. Forward CHARLES MILLER (fr. Linden, NJ/Linden) totaled 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Guard MIKE HERN (fr. Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) was also in double digits with 11 points.

The Profs were ahead 38-25 at halftime. Rowan led 48-33 at 14:24 after two free throws by forward Rahim Shiver (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.). Montclair State scored nine straight points to make the score 48-42 at 11:39. Guard GEOFF GRIVALSKY (so. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Dudley each made a three-pointer in the stretch. Rowan went back up by 10 points (55-45) after a three by Byrnes at 9:06. The Red Hawks went on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to one point (57-56) with 6:41 remaining. Dudley had five points, while center ERIC SYLVESTER (sr. Orange, NJ/Orange), Miller and Hern each added two. With the score 59-58 at 5:56, Rowan scored seven consecutive points for an eight point advantage (66-58). Byrnes made two layups and Bowser nailed a three-pointer. The closest Montclair State would come the rest of the game was three points at 1:23 (69-66) and 00:46 (71-68). Bowser scored five points in the final 46 seconds and Reddan added two.

The Profs jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the first 5:30 of the game. Baker scored six points in the stretch. The Red Hawks clawed their way back and Hern's three-pointer at 10:39 made the score 17-13. After a layup by guard Kevin Darby (so. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) at 8:59 and a three by Reddan (8:33), Rowan was back up by nine points (22-13). Miller converted a three-point play at 5:21 to make the score 25-20. Rowan ended the half with a 13-5 run. At the intermission, Baker had 14 points, while Redden totaled eight points and eight boards. Dudley had eight points and Miller grabbed nine rebounds for the Red Hawks.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, February 7 as they head to Langhorne, PA to face Philadelphia Biblical University at 8:00 pm in their final non-conference game of the year.
