Madison, NJ (3/27/07) – Senior attack
BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored two goals inside the final minute as Montclair State rallied for a 12-11 victory over FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) had two goals and two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 4-1 on the season in a battle of last year's ECAC Division III Upstate and South champions. With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-5 on the season.
FDU-Florham sophomore midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored her second goal of the game with 0:54 left to put the Devils up 11-10. Montclair would win the ensuing draw as Tanis collected the loose ball. Seconds later Gillin scored to tie the game at 11-11.
The Devils won the next draw by turned the ball over. MSU's
DINA MORRONE (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) scooped up the ground ball and MSU went on the attack when with six seconds left, Gillin scored the game-winner - her fourth tally of the game.
FDU jumped out to a 6-4 halftime advantage thanks in part to four goals from sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport). Montclair State. scored the first three goals of the second half however, to take a 7-6 lead with just under 18 minutes left to play as
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) notched the second of her two tallied of the game. The Devils tied it up a little over a minute later but the Red Hawks responded with two more goals to take a 9-7 lead with 14:55 left.
FDU-Florham didn't go away though, scoring the next three goals to go up 10-9 with 8:42 remaining. Montclair tied up the contest up for the fifth time two minutes later as Tanis scored unassisted and the game remained tied until sophomore midfielder Reilly scored to give FDU an 11-10 lead with 0:54 left. That's when Gillin took over and helped Montclair State get the win.
Brocklebank and
ANN DAILY (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) each finished with two goals for MSU. Daily added four ground balls while Morrone had four casued turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made 13 saves for Montclair, which outshot FDU-Florham, 34-31 in the game.
Wayne finished with five goals while Reilly had two goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) also chipped in two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 11 saves in the loss.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, March 31 as they begin a weekend set at Sprague Field, MSU will open Skyline Conference play against Centenary on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The following day, the Red Hawks will take on Lycoming also at 1:00 pm.
