No. 20 Lycoming Doubles Up No.18 Women's Lacrosse 14-7

Montclair, NJ (4/1/07) – Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY/ Irondequoit) scored four goals and added and assist while freshman Megan McIntyre (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) added three goals and two assists as 18th-ranked and unbeaten Lycoming scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back in a 14-7 victory over No. 20 Montclair State in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Crystal Cody (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) scored three goals while Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) made 16 saves as the Warriors improved to 10-0 on the seson.

BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two goals for Montclair State, which had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-2.

Lycoming jumped out to its four-goal lead within the first six minutes of the game as Cody scored all three of her tallies. Cody's first goal game at the 1:46 mark and Wallenhorst followed with a goal off a Heather Suit (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) assist three minutes later. Suit then fed Cody for the third goal as Lycoming led 3-0 with 25:02 left. Cody collected the hat trick off McIntyre's assist a minute later as the Warrior built their four-goal cushion.

Montclair's JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) put the Red Hawks on the board as she scored off a free position attempt with 22:18 left to make the score 4-1. After a Wallenhorst goal, SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) brought MSU within 5-2 on an unassisted goal with 5:25 to play, but Lycoming struck twice inside two minutes on goals by McIntyre and Brianna Robertson (Brechin, ONT/Patrick Fogarty Catholic) eight seconds apart as the Warriors led 7-2 at halftime.

Meanwhile Peacock kept the Red Hawks out of the back of the net stopping 10 shots, including three on free-position attempts.

In the second half, McIntyre's third goal of the game with 18:21 to go pushed the Lycoming lead to 9-3. Montclair State would get within four as BETHANY BLAINE (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) scored with 17:20 left and Brocklebank tallied a goal 15 seconds later to make the score 9-5. The Red Hawks could not get any closer and Lycoming ended any comeback with three goals during a 1:40 span to put the game away. Justine Titko (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), Wallenhorst and Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) each scored as the Warriors extended their lead to 12-5 with 5:12 remaining.

Suit finished with three assists while Wingerden collected four draw and two caused turnovers. Erin Dillon (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep) had a team-high three caused turnovers for the Warriors, who owned a 14-9 advantage in draw controls in the game.

Senior Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made 10 saves for Montclair State. Tanis registered three ground balls and six caused turnovers for the Red Hawks. Brocklebank had two goals while MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two assists as MSU outshot Lycoming 35-30 and held a the edge in ground balls, 22-17.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, April 4 as they Red Hawks host Stevens at Sprague Field beginning at 7:30 pm. Lycoming is back in action the following day at home versus Alvernia College in a 4:00 pm start.
