Montclair State Knocks Off FDU-Florham, 10-6

Madison, NJ – Sophomore designated hitter ED KLOEPPING (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) went 2-for-4 with a pair runs scored and three RBI as Montclair State got back on the winning track with a 10-5 victory over FDU-Florham in NCAA Division III baseball action on Thursday afternoon.

Junior catcher MATT HARTWICK ( Ringwood, NJ/ Lakeland Regional) had two hits and two runs batted in as the Red Hawks squared their record at 14-14 on the season.

 Joey Santillo ( Mt. Olive, NJ/ Mt. Olive) was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI's in the loss for the Devils, who dropped to 15-10 on the season.

Montclair State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second as Kloepping reached on a n error and Rob Clark ( Livingston, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) walked. A fielder's choice loaded the bases and JERRY CASALE (Rockaway, NJ/ Morris Hills) brought home Kloepping with a ground out for the first run. Hartwick then slapped a single to right field to drive home the next two runs.

Santillo's home run put the Devils on the board in the second, but MSU answered with three runs in the third. SCOTT EVANGELIST (Northfield, NJ/Holy Spirit) had a sacrifice fly and Kloepping brought home a run with a base hit before Casale capped off the inning with an RBI single through the middle of the infield as Montclair State took a 6-1 lead.

But FDU-Florham battled back scoring three times in the bottom of the third. Santillo had a two run single and Bill Winters ( Brick Township, NJ/ Brick Township) added an RBI as the Devils pulled within 6-4.

The teams would trade runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score, 7-5 and the Red Hawks then pulled away with three runs in the sixth. Kloepping lined a two-run double to score MICHAEL NUNES ( Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and KEVIN CUOZZI ( Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and Clark's sacrifice fly accounted for the final MSU run.

Junior lefthander NICK RECCHIA ( Randolph, NJ/Randolph) picked up the win as he improved to 2-0.

Casale was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI for MSU while Nunes and LOU POLITAN ( Livingston, NJ/Livingston) each had two hits as Montclair State collected 13 in the game.

Junior first baseman Dan Bellino ( Jackson, NJ/ St. Rose) had his first three-hit game of the season for FDU-Florham

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, April 20 as they head to Bears and Eagles Stadium in Newark, NJ to face Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC matchup at 3:30 pm.
