MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored three goals and assisted on three others while junior
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) had three goals and an assist as Montclair State tallied the first seven goals of the game en route to a 13-6 victory over Elizabethtown College in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK ( Long Branch , NJ / Long Branch ) ,
ANN DAILY ( Moorestown , NJ / Moorestown ) and
MORGAN MACPHEE ( Toms River , NJ/ Toms River East) each had two goals as the Red Hawks upped their record to 9-2 with their fourth straight victory. MSU has also won all three meetings with the Blue Jays.
Freshman Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/ North Hartford ) scored three times for Elizabethtown , which fell to 10-3 this year.
Tanis put Montclair on the board 4:46 into the game with an unassisted tally and Brocklebank scored just under two minutes later as MSU took a 2-0 lead. DiBenedetto then fed MacPhee for the third goal and Tanis ' second of the game with 17:10 to play put the Red Hawks in front, 4-0. Tanis set up Daily for a goal midway through the period and
NICOLE ROSELLE ( Pine Brook , NJ / Montville ) scored with 13:03 left before Tanis made it 7-0 with her third goal.
Kelsea Kozak ( Brookhaven , PA / Sun Valley ) snapped the string of goals by Montclair as she scored with 1:05 left before halftime, however, MSU would tack on two more before the half as Brocklebank and MacPhee registered scores 22 seconds apart as MSU took a 9-1 halftime lead.
Montclair State quickly extended the lead 54 seconds into the second half as Brocklebank fed DiBenedetto in front. Kozak answered with a goal with 23:25 to go, but Montclair responded as Daily and DeBenedetto scored to give the Red Hawks a 12-2 cushion with 13:04 remaining. Caprinolo scored three times to spark a four-goal run by the Blue Jays as it trimmed the lead to 12-6, however that would be as close a Elizabethtown would get.
MSU goalkeeper Kristin Kuhmann ( Beachwood , NJ / Toms River South) made eight saves for the Red Hawks while Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace , MD /Havre de Grace) stopped 10 for the Blue Jays.
Montclair State held a 32-19 advantage in shots in the game and a 16-15 edge in ground balls, including six by Tanis .
BETHANY BLAINE ( Moorestown , NJ / Moorestown ) finished with four caused turnovers while
DINA MORRONE ( Medford Lakes , NJ / Shawnee ) had three draw controls.
Alisha Sangrey ( Columbia , PA /Hempfield) had three draws and four ground balls for Elizabethtown with Danielle Schaffer ( Mamora , NJ / Ocean City ) adding two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, April 21 with road games. Montclair State will be at Mount St. Vincent for a 12:00 pm Skyline Conference matchup. Elizabethtown will be at York (PA) at the same time.
