ANN DAILY (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown),
NICOLE LAROCCA (Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) and
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) each scored three times as Montclair State saw five players collect hat tricks as the Red Hawks completed their second straight unbeaten Skyline Conference season with a 20-8 victory over Manhattanville College at Sprague Field on Friday evening.
Senior
BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two goals and four assists as the Red Hawks finished 6-0 in the league for the second consecutive season. The Red Hawks, the defending Skyline Conference champion, will be the top seed and host a semifinal contest at Sprague Field on Wednesday, May 2 against the same Manhattanville team at a time to be deteremined. The Valients earned the number four seed by virtue of a tiebreaker over Kean and Farmingdale State.
Sophomore Abbe Grimes (Hamden, CT/Hopkins) had three goals and three assists for the Valiants, who are now 5-8 overall and finished their league slate at 2-4. Katie Bertel (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) collected four goals and an assist.
Montclair State raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game, including three goals in the first 1:41 of the contest. Daily scored off an assist from
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) 45 seconds in and DiBenedetto collected the first of her three goals 37 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Brocklebak would score the next two goals and
BETHANY BLAINE (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) tallied a goal with 19:27 left as MSU led 5-0. Gillin scored with 19:27 left for the sixth goal and then set up markers by Blaine and LaRocca before scored for the second time with 12:18 to go as the Red Hawks took a 9-0 lead. DiBenedetto finished off the MSU barrage with her second goal with 10:04 left.
Jenna McGuire (Woodstock, CT) got the Valiants on the board with 8:47 to play, but LaRocca answered less than a minute later as Montclair would take an 11-2 lead into halftime.
LaRocca and
MORGAN MACPHEE (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) each had three goals while Daily and
NICOLE ROSELLE (Pine Brook, NJ/Montville) each added two assists. DiBenedetto, Tanis and Gillin registered four draw controls apiece as MSU held a 19-10 advantage in that department.
Mary Albano (Trumbull, CT) made 16 saves for the Valiants, who got three draws from Bertel in the loss. Montclair State's Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made five saves for the Red Hawks, which outshot Manhattanville, 41-14 in the game.
