Men's Lacrosse Top Manhattanville for Fifth Straight Win

Montclair, NJ (4/7/07) – Junior attack BRYAN KLIMCHAK (Clark, NJ/AL Johnson) scored four goals while senior midfielder EVAN WEHMEYER (Succasunna, NJ/Pope John XXIII) registered five assists as Montclair State posted its fifth straight victory with a 13-4 victory over Manhattanville College in Skyline Conference men's lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore attack TYLER MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon) scored three times as the Red Hawks upped their record to 6-3 overall, 5-1 in the Skyline as it downed the Valiants for the 14 th time in 15 meetings. The current winning streak by Montclair State is its longest since the 2004 campaign when it also captured five in a row.

Freshman Vin Menzenski ( Yorktown , NY / Yorktown ) had two goals for Manhattanville, which dropped its sixth straight while falling to 3-6 overall, 0-4 in the Skyline.

Montclair State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first period. Klimchak scored on a man-up goal 2:29 into the game and TAYLOR BONNER (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and JOHN SCHIAVONE (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) added goals 13 seconds apart as MSU led 3-0 with 9:15 left. Klimchak's second man-up tally under minute later increased the lead to four and Meixner's first goal with 7:06 remaining pushed the Red Hawk advantage to 5-0. Klimchak would score the final goal with 2:51 to go.

The Red Hawks would increase the lead to 8-0 in the second on a pair of unassisted goals by Meixner, the second coming as he picked up a loose clear attempt in front of the Valiant goal before flicking in a shot. Menzenski broke up the MSU scoring run with a minute left before halftime as Montclair State led 8-1 at the break.

In the second half, the Red Hawks scored the first five goals, including Klimchak's fourth off a Wehmeyer assist that made the score 10-1 with 12:25 left in the third. Senior JOHN DELLA PESCA (Fair Lawn , NJ / Fair Lawn ) would collect two man-up goals before PATRICK NANN ( Livingston , NJ /Livingston) finished off the MSU scoring in the fourth.

Menzenski, Luke Dorfman ( Freeport , NY / Freeport ) and Shannon Sturz ( Pound Ridge , NY / Fox Lane ) each scored for Manhattanville as the Valiants closed out the game with the final three goals.

THOMAS BOWERS (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XXIII) made nine saves for Montclair State before giving way to ANDREW ROSADO (Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Joseph's (Montvale)), who had two in 10 minutes of action. Freshman Andrew Predun ( Cold Spring Harbor , NY / Cold Spring Harbor ) had a solid afternoon with 23 saves, including 14 in the second half.

Schiavone finished with two goals for Montclair State , which also got three assists from MARIO PASSAFIUME (Boonton , NJ / Mountain Lakes) . The Red Hawks outshot Manhattanville, 56-29 and won 15-of-20 faceoffs, including 7-of-8 by Schiavone.

Sturz and Shane Fanini ( Philadelphia , PA / Westminster ) each had six ground balls for the Valiants.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, April 11 as the Red Hawks travel to Hackettstown , NJ to face Centenary College in a Skyline matchup at 4:00 pm.
