Haverford, PA (9/1/07) – The Montclair State women's soccer team opened its 2007 season on a tough note as the Red Hawks fell to Lynchburg College, 3-1, in the opening round of the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, NJ / DePaul) scored on a penalty kick for MSU, which will face Arcadia at 3:30 on Sunday in the consolation game.

Ashley Hoath scored two first half goals to lead Lynchburg to its fourth straight Kickoff Tournament semifinal victory over MSU Saturday on Walton Field.

Hoath drove home a rebound off a blocked shot by Sara Butsavage in the eighth minute, then converted a penalty kick after Butsavage was fouled in the 31st minute to send the Hornets (1-0) into the tournament final versus Haverford for the fourth straight year. Lynchburg defeated the host Fords in the 1999, 2000 and 2004 finals, but Haverford won, 1-0, in 2005, then captured last year's title on penalty kicks, 4-2, after a 0-0 draw in two overtimes.

Audrea Hamby knocked in a short cross from Emily Sledd off the hands of Montclair (0-1) goalkeeper LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, MA / North Andover), who made three saves in her first career start, in the 61st minute for a 3-0 Lynchburg lead. Sisti prevented a fourth straight shutout for the Red Hawks in their series with the Hornets by notching her own PK after she was fouled in the box with 6:46 left.

Goalkeeper Jackie Bader stopped five shots with no goals allowed for Lynchburg, before turning the net over to Anna Wright (two saves) for the final 18:50.
