Haverford, PA (9/2/07) – Sophomore
NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, NJ / DePaul Catholic) scored both goals, however, it wasn't enough as the Montclair State women's soccer team dropped its second straight game, falling to Arcadia, 3-2 in the consolation game of the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Hawks fell to 0-2 with the loss and evened their all-time record in the Haverford Kickoff Classic at 6-6.
Sophomore goalkeeper
LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, MA, North Andover) kept the game scoreless through the first half as she made seven of her eight saves in the game, including five in the first 18 minhutes of the contest.
In the 62nd minute, Arcadia was able to break through as Cassandra McLaughlin took away a ball at the top of the box and chipped in a shot over an on-rushing Tepperman for the first goal of the game. The Knights would extend the lead to 2-0 just over seven minutes later. Stephanie Bates touched a pass toward the goalmouth that Danielle Discher was able to knock in with 31:10 left in the game.
Montclair would cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 78:03 mark. Senior
MAUREEN SHOCKLEY (Magnolia, NJ / Triton) lofted a long pass from the right wing up to Sisti, who beat Arcadia goalkeeper Michelle Leone for her second goal in as many days. But the Knight's Janelle Jablonski quickly responded 1:20 later as she drove in shot that deflected off Tepperman's hands as Arcadia led 3-1 with 11:17 left in the game.
The Red Hawks closed the gap with 2:22 remaining as Sisti answered again this time taking a pass from freshman
CHRISTYN SCILLIERI (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) and scoring her third goal in two games and the 20th in her 25-game MSU career. Montclair would get one last shot, but Leone was able to stop
LARA KAMINSKI's (Rahwah, NJ / Union Catholic) attempt with three second left.
Leone finished with nine saves while Tepperman posted eight. Montclair State held a 23-15 advantage in shots in the game.
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, September 8 when they face Endicott in the opening round of the Wellesley Invitational in Massachusetts. MSU is the defending champion of the tournament as it defeated both Wellesley (2-0) and Eastern Connecticut (1-0) en route to the title. Kaminski was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
