HOBOKEN, N.J.(10/12/07) – Sophomore midfielder/forward Leslie Kallberg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored all three goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team improved to 3-1-1 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Montclair State University on Wednesday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. The win helped the Ducks avenge a 2-0 loss to the Red Hawks from last season.
Kallberg opened the scoring in the eighth minute following a corner by Stevens. On the play, junior midfielder Audra Clark (Dallas, Texas) received a pass in the box and headed the ball towards the net. Montclair sophomore goalkeeper
LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, N.J.) made the save, but Kallberg corralled the loss ball and punched it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Stevens extended its lead to 2-0 as Kallberg scored an unassisted goal at 53:28. Following a save on a long shot from the top of the box, Kallberg jumped on the rebound and blasted a shot that Tepperman was able to stop. Kallberg beat the Montclair goalie to the second rebound and scored into the vacated net.
Just over four minutes later, the Red Hawks (1-3-1) got on the board as sophomore forward
LISA TASCI (Paramus, N.J.) scored on a header off a cross from junior defender
ANGELA MARTONE (Toms River, N.J.). Kallberg extended the Ducks' lead to 3-1 less than two minutes later as she slid a shot past Tepperman from the right wing off passes from senior back/forward Sarah Roeder (Portland, Ore.) and Clark, who had two assists in the game.
Montclair would not go away though as freshman forward
CHRISTYN SCILLIERI (Wayne, N.J.) scored with 20 minutes remaining to cut the Red Hawks' deficit to 3-2. Sophomore forward
NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, N.J.) set up the play as she found Scillieri cutting inside the box on the right side.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg (Bayonne, N.J.), who was named to the D3Kicks.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday, earned her third win of the season as she made one save in the contest. Tepperman stopped 10 shots for Montclair.
The Ducks owned a 19-9 advantage in shots during the game. The Red Hawks registered seven corner kicks to just five by Stevens.
Coming up on Saturday, the Ducks will open Empire 8 play with a home match against Alfred University at noon. That game will be carried live at www.Empire8.tv.
