Montclair, NJ (9/25/07) – Junior outside hitter Amanda Burkhardt collected 26 kills and 20 digs as Richard Stockton squandered a 2-0 lead and then held off five match points in the decisive fifth set to defeat Montclair State, 3-2 in NJAC Volleyball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

Richard Stockton won the match by the game scores of 30-25, 30-28, 26-30, 25-30, and 19-17.

Audrey O'Donnell and Nicole Williams had 16 and 14 kills, respectively, as the Ospreys (8-10) remained unbeaten in NJAC at 4-0 while snapping a four-match losing streak.

Sophomore KAREN MARTIN and DEVON JOHNSTON each had 17 kills for Montclair State (10-8), which came within a point of defeating Richard Stockton for the first time in 33 meetings.

In the fifth set, Stockton took a 9-8 lead as Burkhardt registered a kill, but Montclair scored the next six behind the serving of RAISA SILVA, who gave the Red Hawks a 14-9 lead. Amanda Manganiello kept Stockton alive with a kill, and a bad set by MSU made the score 14-11. Montclair would commit an attack error, and Christina Astarita served an ace to bring the Ospreys within 14-13. Williams tied the game with a kill. Montclair State would retake the lead on the next serve as Johnston put down her 16th kill of the match, but an attack error by the Red Hawks knotted the game at 15-al.

O'Donnell then gave Richard Stockton the opportunity to win the match with a kill; however, Martin countered for the Red Hawks, and the match was tied at 16-16. O'Donnell and Johnston then traded kills for a ninth tie in the final game, but Montclair miscued on the serve to give Richard Stockton an 18-17 lead. Manganiello then ended the match with her fifth kill of the evening.

Burkhardt had eight kills in the first game and Williams seven in the second as Richard Stockton opened up its two game-to-none lead. But the Red Hawks came back as Burnham recorded seven kills in the third set, and the Red Hawks evened the match in Game 4 as Chesnakova had five kills.
