Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 5 Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten, Tops Kean 2-0

Union, NJ (10/1/08) – Junior forward JOSEPH CULLEN scored just under 10 minutes into the second half, and classmate JOHN ESPOSITO followed with another eight minutes later as fifth-ranked Montclair State matched its best start in school history with a 2-0 win over Kean University in NJAC action on Wednesday evening.

The win improves the Red Hawks to a perfect 11-0 and 4-0 in NJAC play. Montclair matched the 11-0 mark set by the 1969 squad and duplicated two seasons ago.

The Cougars drop their sixth straight, including four nationally-ranked opponents, to fall to 4-7-1 overall and 0-4 in NJAC competition.

After a scoreless first half, MSU surged early as Cullen notched the game-winner on a free-kick, 20 yards out at 54:35. Eight minutes later, the Red Hawks added insurance Esposito took a cross from senior TYLER MASTERSON from 10 yards out. The goal was Esposito's sixth of the season, and the assist for Masterson was his ninth as he has now collected a point in all 11 games this season.

Sophomore keeper Alfredo Oquendo made 12 stops for the Cougars while senior NICK MELE had two in the shutout, his sixth of the season. The Red Hawks held a 29-7 advantage in shots while also maintaining an 8-2 lead in corner kicks, including six in the second half.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 4, as the Red Hawks host Rutgers-Camden as MSU Soccer Park beginning at 2:00 pm.
