Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 11 Field Hockey Topped by Wilkes 3-1

Kingston, PA (10/11/08) - Sophomore DEANA HAGEL (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) tied the game at 1-1 just over 12 minutes in; however, Wilkes went back in front two minutes later and added an insurance goal early in the second half for a 3-1 victory over 11th-ranked Montclair State on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes' Brittany Sines put the Lady Colonels on the board early as she knocked in a pass from Diana Wright in traffic just under three minutes in for the early lead. The score was Sines' third goal of the season, and would later pick up her fourth assist on the year when she passed a ball to Gina Elmy, who scored the game-winner at the 14:56 mark.

Montclair State tied the match at one when Hagel scored an unassisted goal at the 12:17 mark before Elmy put the Lady Colonels up for good.

After missing the past two games because of a head injury, Alyssa Koncelik scored her team-high 10th goal of the season at the 36-minute mark to give Wilkes a commanding 3-1 lead, which it would not relinquish. Alyson Paulauskas crossed the ball through the middle for her first assist of the season.

Defensively, the Lady Colonels and goalkeeper Lindsey Davenport staved off a flurry of offensive attacks from the Red Hawks. Montclair State had 12 total shots, eight of which were on goal, most of which came in the second half. Goalkeeper EMINA UDRJIA (West Paterson, NJ / Passaic Valley) had three saves while freshman MEGAN DOUGLASS (Hopewell Junction, NY / John Jay) made two.

The Lady Colonels had 14 total shots, three from Elmy and Wright, including eight on goal.
