Montclair Blanks Lehman

New York, NY (10/24/08) – Sophomore DEVON JOHNSTON (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) tallied a match-best 17 kills an added 11 digs while junior ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) returned from a three-match absence to collected 10 kills as Montclair State posted its second straight victory with a three-set sweep of Lehman College on Friday evening at the APEX.

Sophomore KRISTEN RUGGIERI (Hillsdale, NJ / Pascack Valley) registered 21 assists, five service aces and seven digs for Montclair State, which improved to 16-11 overall this season. MSU won the match by scores of 25-17,25-14, and 25-18.

In a losing effort for the Lightning (13-11), Gerri-Ann Martin led the way with eight kills to go along with three digs. Setter Lisa Jagdeo added 11 assists and two service aces, and captain Jillian Acevedo played very well defensively, as she contributed with a match-high 15 digs.

Adrienne Moe (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) also tallied 11 assists and two assists. As a team, Montclair State University hit .185.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, October 28 for their final NJAC contest of the regular-season. MSU travels to Pomona, NJ to face Richard Stockton. A win by Montclair would clinch the regular-season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the NJAC Tournament, which gets underway on Tuesday, November 4. Montclair State has already clinched a first-round bye and will host a semifinal contest at the MSU Student Recreation Center on Thursday, November 6 at 7:00 pm.
