Grantham, PA (11/1/08) – The Montclair State volleyball team closed out its regular season with a pair of losses against York (PA) and host Messiah College on Saturday.
The Red Hawks (16-14) fell to York in four sets and suffered a five-set loss to the host Falcons as it prepares for its NJAC Tournament semifinal matchup at home on Thursday, November 6 at the MSU Student Recreation Center.
KARA BURNHAM and
DEVON JOHNSTON had eight kills apiece against York (PA), which took the match after dropping the first set 25-18. The Spartans (19-14) won the final three sets 25-21, 25-17 and 25-12.
Karin Martin had seven kills and nine digs while
ANNA CHESNAKOVA chipped in with five kills and nine total blocks.
CHRISTINE TOSKOVICH had 29 assists and six digs with libero
MEGHAN STEVENS and Johnston collecting 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
Montclair and Messiah alternated wins in the first four sets with the Red Hawks taking 25-21 and 25-22 victories in the first and third while the Falcons posted 25-15 and 25-18 wins in the second and fourth before taking the decisive set 15-10.
Burnham led the Red Hawks with nine kills with Adrienne Moe and Johnston getting eight each. Chesnakova had six along with four total blocks. Toskovich put up 27 assists, three aces and seven digs with Johnston getting 11 digs.
