Center Valley, PA (11/15/08) — Sophomore guards Megan Kopecki (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) and Jennifer King (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) poured in career-highs of 23 and 16 points, respectively, as The University of Scranton defeated Montclair State University, 65-54, in the opening round of the DeSales tournament Saturday evening at Billera Hall.
Montclair State will face Immaculata in the consolation game of the tournament on Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 pm. It will be the first meeting between the schools since the 1979-80 season when Montclair recorded a 73-59 win back when the teams competed in the AIAW.
Kopecki tossed in 16 points in the first-half as the Lady Royals fought back from an early deficit to take a 36-18 lead by intermission. Scranton enjoyed a 20-point lead throughout much of the second-half until the Red Hawks made a late run.
