St. Thomas (12/29/08) – Montclair State finished their Sunsational Hoops Classic sweep with a second straight win, this time over the Elizabethtown College, 68-59.

Montclair's CATHERINE CRISTINO (Farmingdale, NJ / Colts Neck) scored a tournament-high 21 points and pulled down six rebounds. The MSU Red Hawks (7-4) started the game in dominating fashion, going on an 11-2 run over the first five minutes. Cristino and MARIANNE MCGOVERN (Fair Lawn, NJ / Paramus Catholic) combined for nine of those points for Montclair. Elizabethtown (5-4) went down by 11 points in the first half before making a late comeback to close the gap. Led by 3-of-4 shooting from behind 3-point range by Megan Strohman, the Blue Jays were able to close the gap to six at the half. Strohman finished with a team-high 18 points.

Montclair State led at halftime 32-26. Elizabethtown's Megan Quinn, who is the team's leading scorer, was held without a point in the first half. That changed in the second half and after Quinn's fifth unanswered point, the Blue Jays tied the game up at 35 with 14:48 remaining. Despite the rocky start, Quinn got her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The combination in the paint of Cristino and KISANDRA AYANBEKU (Burlington, MA / Randolph) got MSU the lead back, and helped the Red Hawks keep it until the end. They combined for all 11 of MSU's points on an 11-5 run that broke the game open.

Ayanbeku had a double-double on the night with 10 points and a tournament-high 16 rebounds. Elizabethtown pulled to within five points with 6:41 remaining, but Montclair was able to go on a 12-6 run over the next five minutes to seal the victory. For Elizabethtown, Jenn Montague had 10 points and seven rebounds and Megan Romano contributed with eight points and a game-high six assists. For MSU, McGovern had 13 points and JAMILEE PFLUG (Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson) had 12 points.
