LAURA SPADONI (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area) and
GALINA LOUTCHOUK (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) and senior
LAURA FLYNN (Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) each recorded three victories as the Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a New Jersey Athletic Conference dual meet with Ramapo on Saturday. Spadoni and Loutchouk helped the MSU women (2-2, 1-1 NJAC) to a 141-117 victory over the Roarunners while the men (1-3, 0-2 NJAC) suffered a 147-110 setback.
Spadoni helped Montclair State off on the right foot as she teamed with freshman
ASHLEY VALLONE (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge), Cristina Crossin (Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall) and Flynn for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay as they recorded a time of 1:58.72. Spadoni then swam to victory in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:10.58 and 2:35.18, respectively.
Loutchouk earned her wins in the distance freestyle events taking the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:26.58 before coming back with a time of 5:39.83 to win the 500 freestyle. She then combined with Crossin,
KELLY ABNER (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) and
ALICE SROGA (Mahwah, NJ / Mahwah) to post the top finish in the 400 freestyle relay as MSU swam the event in exhibition.
Flynn swept the butterfly events as she led a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:24.31. She then captured the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.11. Abner had the 10th first-place finish for the Red Hawks taking the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.81 and Vallone had an win in the 50 freestyle (56.40) as well as the 100 freestyle (25.90) giving Montclair State a fourth triple-winner in the meet.
On the men's side, freshman
MICHAEL SMITH (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.78 and then combined with
BLAISE LACCA (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township),
THOMAS LONG (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) and
MATT HYDE (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.02).
Sean Chambrovich (Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.27.
The Red Hawks return to action next weekend as they compete at the Golden Bear Invitational at Kutzown University on November 20-21.
