Boggi Leads Montclair Past Moravian for Second Straight Win

Bethlehem, PA – Junior centerfielder MICHAEL BOGGI (Towaco, NJ / Montville) went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI as Montclair State posted its second straight win with a 10-1 win over Moravian College at Gillespie Field on Tuesday.

Senior righthander MICHAEL STREAMAN (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) pitched five shutout innings for the win as the Red Hawks improved to 5-7.

The Red Hawks scored twice in the top of the second inning for a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from KEVIN MILLER (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) and JAY BIONDE (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock).  Montclair State added six more runs in the top of the third inning to push the lead to 8-0.   MICKEY MCGRAW (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) had an RBI single while Boggi had a two RBI doubled.  MICHAEL KAMINSKI (Neshanic Station, NJ/ Somerville) added an RBI field's choice while SCOTT EVANGELIST (Northfield, NJ / Holy Spirit) had a two-RBI double in the inning.

The Red Hawks scored their final two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run to deep left center field by Boggi.

Moravian scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Freshman outfielder Eric Volpe reached on a fielder's choice with two outs, stole second base and scored on a pinch hit triple by senior Thomas Czarnecki.

Montclair State had an 11-6 advantage in hits with Boggi going three-for-three with four RBIs.  Bionde added two hits.  Freshman designated hitter Joe Bartolacci was two-for-three for the Greyhounds.

Streaman earned the win, allowing just two hits and striking out three batters in five innings of action. He is now 2-0. SEAN HILLE (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Montvale)), KEVIN WIEME (Bayville, NJ / Paramus) and SCOTT SHAN (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) each tossed a scoreless inning for the Red Hawks.

The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, March 26 as they open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play. MSU travels to Kean University to face the #5 / #9 Cougars at 3:30 pm.
