MSU Pounds Out Win over Greensboro in Georgia Trip Finale

Demorest, GA – Junior right fielder SCOTT EVANGELIST (Northfield, NJ / Holy Spirit) went 2-for-3 with three RBI while freshman Richard McGraw (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) had three hits and two runs batted in as Montclair State pounded out 20 hits in a 19-11 victory over Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore MIKE ERCOLANO ( Vernon, NJ / Vernon) had two hits, including a home run as the Red Hawks completed their trip to Georgia at 2-2.

A slugfest early one, the teams combined for 16 runs in the first three innings. After Greensoboro took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, Montclair responded two in its half as Evangelist delivered an RBI double and stole home on a successful double steal by the Red Hawks.

Greensboro added three more in the second only to see MSU counter with three of its own. Mike Kaminski ( Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) plated a run with a single and McGraw added an RBI single of his own before Evangelist drove in his second run as MSU cut the lead to 6-5. Again, Greensboro scored three runs in an inning to go up 9-5 in the third, but back came Montclair with two runs in the bottom of the frame. JASON LOPEZ ( West New York, NJ / Memorial) had an RBI ground out and McGraw singled home a second run as MSU trailed 9-7.

The following inning, Montclair State plated seven runs on five hits as it sent 10 batters to the plate. Senior catcher MATT HARTWICK (Ringwood, NJ / Lakeland Regional) began the rally with a two-run double that tied the game and TIMOTHY SWIFT's (Tenafly, NJ / Tenafly) two-run single put Montclair up 11-9. Swift would score on a balk and Lopez, who doubled, came around to score on an error. Evangelist would add a sacrifice fly as MSU led 14-9.

Ercolano would blast his second career home run to lead off the fifth and after Greensboro got a run back in the sixth, Montclair tacked on three more in the sixth and another in the eighth inning.

Junior righthander DANIEL NODARSE ( Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) picked up the win, his first of the season. Lefthander NICK RECCHIA ( Randolph, NJ / Randolph) pitched two innings allowing an unearned run, his first appearance since the season finale versus Ithaca in May 2007. Recchia missed the entire 2008 campaign with an injury.

Ercolano finished 2-fo-r4 as did Swift and Lopez. Kaminski was 2-for-3.

The Red Hawks are now off for a week until they begin their six-game game southern road trip. Montclair kicks off its Spring Break journey in Lynchburg, Virginia on Sunday, March 15 as they take on Lynchburg College at 2:00 pm. Included in the trip will be another contest with Greensboro on Monday, March 16 at 3:00 pm.
