Pomona, NJ – Montclair State (17-12, 8-4) swept an NJAC doubleheader from Richard Stockton (13-14, 2-11) by scores of 16-8 and 8-3 today. In the opener,
JAY BIONDE (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) and
SCOTT EVANGELIST (Northfield/Holy Spirit) each went 2-4 with a double and two RBI for Montclair. Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI while Matt Allen (Salem/Woodstown) was 2-4 for Stockton.
Montclair led 6-0 after four innings and broke the game open with seven tallies in the top of the fifth, which was highlighted by a three-run homer from
MIKE ERCOLANO (Vernon/Vernon). Winning pitcher
NICK RECCHIA (Randolph/Randolph) retired the first 12 batters in order before starting the fifth inning with a walk followed by McGuckin's two-run homer. Recchia allowed five runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings of Montclair's 16-8 win.
Evangelist led the Red Hawks to an 8-3 victory in the nightcap by going 3-4 with two runs.
JASON LOPEZ (West New York/Memorial) and
MICHAEL BOGGI (Towaco/Montville) added two hits apiece for Montclair. Stockton's Jay Merulla (Logan Twp./Kingsway) went 3-4 with a run and an RBI while Allen was 2-4 for the Ospreys.
Montclair led 4-1 after an RBI single by Boggi in the top of the seventh inning, but Nick Scalise (Northfield/Mainland) blasted a two-run homer in the bottom half to pull Stockton within 4-3. The Red Hawks clinched the game with four runs in the top of ninth, including a bases-loaded double by
ZACHARY BROWN (Green Village/Morristown) that yielded three RBI.

DANIEL NODARSE (Rutherford/Rutherford) allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in seven innings for the win.
MICHAEL STREAMAN (Westfield/Westfield) came in with the Red Hawks leading 4-3 and tossed two scoreless innings for a save in the 8-3 win.
Stockton will host Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow at noon. Montclair State will host College of New Jersey in an NJAC twinbill tomorrow at noon.
