Pomona, NJ (4/19/09) – Richard Stockton (24-10, 7-7) edged Montclair State (19-13, 7-7) 2-1 in an NJAC makeup game today.
Stockton pitcher Kaitlyn Corica (Iselin/JFK) tossed a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts to earn the victory, which moved the Ospreys into a tie with Montclair State for fifth place in the NJAC. The contest was originally slated as the second half of a doubleheader on April 13 but was rescheduled due to darkness.
Brooke Shetter (Atco/Hammonton) went 1-3 with a double and two RBI while Lindsay Connell (Rahway/Rahway) was 1-2 with a run scored for the Ospreys.
ADRIAN RASTOCNY (Colonia/Colonia) went 2-3 with a double for Montclair State.
Stockton left the bases loaded twice and Montclair State stranded a total of eight runners in the game. In the top of the fourth inning, Shetter ripped a two-run double to snap a scoreless tie and give Stockton a 2-0 lead. Montclair State loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh. After Corica hurled a key strikeout,
MEGAN DURKIN (West Orange/West Orange) lofted a sacrifice fly that pulled the Red Hawks within 2-1. Corica then induced a popup to shortstop for the final out as the Ospreys held on for the 2-1 triumph.
Stockton will play an NJAC doubleheader at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday at 3 pm. Montclair State will host New Jersey City in an NJAC twinbill on Tuesday at 3 pm.
