Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Ramapo in Regular Season Finale

Montclair, NJ (4/25/09) – Junior midfielder MORGAN MACPHEE (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) scored four times and assisted on two others as Montclair State closed out its regular season with an 18-2 victory over Ramapo College in a Skyline and New Jersey Athletic Conference women's lacrosse contest at Sprague Field.

Senior Mary Kate DiBenedetto (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson), playing her final regular-season home contest, scored twice and collected an assist as Montclair closed out its schedule at 7-9 overall, 6-1 in the Skyline Conference and 2-2 in the NJAC.

Freshman attack Christina Cigolini (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) scored both goals for Ramapo, which fell to 4-9 overall and finished 2-4 in the Sklyine, 0-4 in the inaugural NJAC campaign.

Montclair reeled off the first eight goals of the contest, seven inside the first eight minutes.

MacPhee got the Red Hawks on the board 30 seconds in as she scored off a LAUREN ADAMS (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) assist. KAYLA HENDERSON (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) connected off a free-position attempt with 27:54 to plays and CORA DELFINI (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt) followed with an unassisted tally with 26:23 to go and freshman CARLA DAVIS (Decatur, GA / Decatur) scored twice as MSU moved in front 5-0 with 2:402 remaining.

MacPhee's second off a free-position attempt pushed the lead to six and ALEX SCERBAK (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) scored with 22:09 to play to make the score 7-0. DiBenedetto finished off the run with her first as MSU led 8-0 with 13:15 to play before halftime.

Cigolini got the Roadrunners on the board with her team-leading 35th of the year with just over 12 minutes remaining, however Montclair would score the final three to take an 11-1 advantage at the break. MacPhee had two of those with MEGHAN SPITZER (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive) picking up the third with 5:32 left.

MSU goalkeepers TRACEY MANELLA (Haworth, NJ / NV-Demarest) and CHRISTINA CROSSIN (Milford, CT / Lauralton Hall) combined to make three saves for Montclair State, which outshot the Roadrunners 28-11. DiBenedetto finished with five ground balls, two draws and three caused turnovers.  ASHLEY KRYZIK (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) had four ground balls while Delfini collected three ground balls.

Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) made seven saves for Ramapo. Lindsey Jachens (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) posted a game-high five caused turnovers.

Montclair State will be in action on Wednesday, April 29 as the Red Hawks host the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament. MSU, the three-time defending champion, will be the No. 2 seed and will face third-seeded College of Mt. St. Vincent..
