KELLY NANCE (Marlboro, NJ / Marlboro) homered in both games and finished with seven RBI while
JENNIFER JIMENEZ (Linden, NJ / Linden) belted a home run and had three runs batted in as Montclair State blanked Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC doubleheader at the MSU Softball Stadium on Wednesday.
Senior lefthander
KELLY KARP (Edison, NJ / Edison) picked up a pair of victories as tThe Red Hawks posted a pair of shutouts winning 8-0 and 13-0. MSU improved to 16-8 overall, 4-4 in the NJAC.
With the game scoreless through one and a half innings the Red Hawks wrestled control of the first game of the twinbill with a four run second, followed by a four run bottom of the third.
Sophomore centerfielder
LESLIE GONZALEZ (North Bergen, NJ / North Bergen) helped lead the Montclair State attack, going two-for-three with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, while Nance finished one-for-three with a homerun, two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman rightfielder
SHANNON MOZEK (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) went two-for-two with a RBI and a run scored, while Karp, who earned the win after striking out eight in five innings of work, finished three-for-three with two runs scored.
Sophomore second baseman Emily Ibarra went two-for-two to lead the Scarlet Raiders offense in game two, singling to right in the bottom of the second before recording a two-out single to left in the third. Shannon Davis followed up a one-for-two outing in the opener with a one-for-two showing in the nightcap.
The Red Hawks got off to a quick start in the second game of the doubleheader with a four run top of the first, capped off by a two-out, two RBI Mozek single to right. Montclair State would push the lead to eight with a four run second, following Nance's two-out RBI double to left, before tacking on five runs in the top of the fourth.
Nance paced the Red Hawks offensively going three-for-three with five RBIs and two runs scored, while Jimenez finished two-for-four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Mozek and junior first baseman
AMANDA LIVSEY (Congers, NY / Clarkstown North) combined for three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Karp (8-3) picked up the win after allowing three hits in three innings of work. Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, April 9 as they travel to College of Staten Island for a 3:00 pm doubleheader with the Dolphins.
