Rowan Knocks Off Women's Soccer, 1-0

Upper Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State University women's soccer team today suffered its first loss of the 2001 campaign, falling by a 1-0 count to visiting Rowan University on Saturday at Sprague Field.

Montclair falls to 6-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play, while Rowan improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The loss snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak for the Red Hawks this season. The setback also ended an 11-game MSU unbeaten streak dating back to last season when the Red Hawks won their final three games, including the 2000 ECAC Division III Metro Championship Game over NYU last November.

Rowan junior forward Colleen McCory (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) scored the only goal of the game, connecting after a corner kick at 21:57 to give the Profs a lead they would never relinquish. Rowan junior goalkeeper Becky Petsch (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Regional) finished with eight saves, including a point-blank stop on MSU freshman midfielder Cassie Nahrebne (Colonia, NJ/John F. Kennedy) with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Montclair outshot Rowan, 15-5, on the afternoon.

MSU returns to action on Monday, Oct. 1, against visiting FDU-Madison at 8:00 p.m. at Sprague Field, while Rowan visits Scranton (PA) that same night at 7:00 p.m.
